UPDATE – NEW ALBUM GROOVY REFLECTIONS – 20 October 2017 + VALERYAN co-hosting Paul Dee’s show “My Front Porch week commencing Tuesday 17th October 2017

Valeryan & Groovy Reflections Radio – Groovy Reflections Radio is an internet based, interactive radio station, which is run from USA. Every week presenter Paul Dee hosts an hour long show loosely based on folk music and artists better known from 60s and 70s. The show – My Front Porch can be picked up worldwide.  http://www.groovyreflectionsradio.com

At the start of 2016 Paul  was researching to find new artists to include in his shows  for the coming year. By complete chance he came across a reference on Facebook to Valeryan. Paul decided to follow this up and take a listen, liked what he heard and downloaded two of her albums – Reflections as released in 2013 and JULY 14 released in 2015.

Although Valeryan has recorded and released 4 albums and 3 singles since 2011 she  “qualified” for the show by virtue of having had a major recording contract while at school in the mid 60s and by having been part of the famous UK Settlers in the mid 70s.

JANUARY VALERYAN ALMOST DELETES MESSAGE!

Valeryan received a Facebook message completely out of the blue, in early January, from Paul Dee saying two of her tracks were to be included on his show.  She says she almost deleted the message thinking it was a  hoax … until she spotted a picture of herself from the late 60s on the poster that came with the message (bottom left).  This proved to be no hoax  and the show was broadcast for a week starting Tuesday 19th January …..

Valeryan’s tracks featured on the show were  Summer Festival Blues  from her album JULY 14  and Whichaway Billy from her Reflections album.  Whichaway Billy had first been released on vinyl back in 1976 while she was part of The Settlers – a remastered version is included on the Reflections album.

Since this first week on the station  Valeryan’s recent tracks have been included in Paul’s shows for 8 weeks during 2016.

SEPTEMBER VALERYAN ON GROOVY REFLECTIONS

This week’s show “Folkies from Across the Pond” included the late great Sandy Denny, Cat Stevens, Ralph McTell  and Valeryan and the poster shows those British artists as they were way back and Valeryan as she is now wearing a Groovy Reflections T-shirt …

The show went out for a week starting Tuesday 13th September and included The Long Black Veil (2013) from Valeryan’s Reflections album , and The Kat Song from her album JULY 14 ……

OCTOBER VALERYAN FEATURED

Things start to hot up from here with Valeryan’s spicy Halloween song …. As the Nights Draw In – The show was broadcast from Tuesday 25th for a week …….   Valeryan didn’t think Paul would dare to play this one  ……… perhaps take a listen on You Tube ….   http://youtu.be/LsXQLXOpJDE

NOVEMBER VALERYAN YET AGAIN FEATURED

Broadcast for one week starting Tuesday 8th November

The show was constructed round Valeryan’s two releases of My Love Loves Me … the first while still a school kid way back in 1965 and the second recorded and released in 2013….  All songs included My Love in the title or the first line and the play list included Paul McCartney, Eva Cassidy, Donovan, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles and Joan Baez  …

LEONARD COHEN’S PASSING TRIBUTE SHOW

Broadcast for one week starting Tuesday 15th November

While Valeryan was still being featured on “My Love”  Leonard Cohen sadly passed away. Paul messaged Valeryan on the Friday asking if she had any of the great man’s tracks recorded as if she did, he’d like to include one in the Tribute show he was planning for the next week.  Valeryan asked when the deadline was as she didn’t have a track recorded … Paul answered “Tuesday morning ” … On Saturday she downloaded the lyric of Sisters of Mercy, learnt it on Sunday and was in the studio with  recording partner Peter Goodall (aka Thunderclap) on Monday. Job done – the file was sent as an email attachment to Paul on Monday night and was included in the show. Artists included in the tribute show were Johnny Cash, Elton John, Billy Joel, Tom Jones, Jackson Brown, Suzanne Vega & Judy Collins……

DECEMBER VALERYAN FEATURED FOR 2 WEEKS ON CHRISTMAS SHOW

The Christmas show on Groovy Reflections ….

Broadcast for two weeks starting Tuesday 13th December

By now Paul has downloaded Valeryan’s album White Christmas which was released in 2013. Two  tracks from White Christmas were featured  in the show – I Believe in Father Christmas – Valeryan’s 2013 cover of Greg Lake’s famous take on Christmas.  This was a timely tribute to Greg who was yet another of 2016’s sad December losses. Also included from White Christmas was her 2013 release of The Coventry Carol complete with Blackbird singing outside the studio while recording the original demo …

COUNTDOWN SHOW VALERYAN AT NUMBER 4

Broadcast for one week starting 27th December

Now this was a complete surprise –  during the year presenter Paul had been totting up favourable comments as posted by the show’s listeners, and Valeryan came in at number 4!!!   Paul chose his own particular favourite  – Valeryan’s tribute to the late Leonard Cohen – Sisters of Mercy….

What a year! All due to a chance sighting , I suspect, to that photo that almost went viral …. taken back in 1972 ….
